Amendoeira Golf Resort Gears Up To Host First Ever EuroPro Tour Grand Finale

europro tour golf betting line Amendoeira Golf Resort Gears Up To Host First Ever EuroPro Tour Grand Finale

Leading Algarve golf destination, Amendoeira Golf Resort, is putting final preparations in place ahead of hosting its first HotelPlanner.com EuroPro Tour Championship, the grand finale of the year-long Race to Amendoeira series.

The Algarve gem, whose Oceanico Faldo Course was also recently named within Golf World Magazine’s Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe, is set to host some of the game’s brightest prospects looking to step up to the European Challenge Tour. Only the five top-placed players after three highly-charged rounds in Portugal will progress to Europe’s second-tier circuit.

Added excitement comes in the form of Chris Lloyd, who, with victory at Amendoeira, would walk away with an eye-watering bonus prize of £250,000 as the winner of four events during the 2017 season. To collect this truly life-changing sum of money, Lloyd will have to overcome stiff competition from his playing rivals, but also the challenge presented by the stunning Oceanico Faldo Course at Amendoeira, also ranked as best in Portugal by the World Golf Awards.

The highly-acclaimed Faldo Course reflects the playing style of its master craftsman, Sir Nick. With an emphasis on strategic play and rewards for accuracy, the championship layout will no doubt prove a sterling but enjoyable test for the Top 60 players on the HotelPlanner.com EuroPro Race to Amendoeira.

The resort, whose golf offering extends beyond the Oceanico Faldo Course, will provide the perfect setting for players to hone their games ahead of a huge week, featuring a second championship layout, designed by Irish legend Christy O’Connor Jnr; a comprehensive practice facility that includes a fitting studio and multiple short game areas and putting greens; as well as the 9-hole Par 3 Academy Course, the only floodlit course in Portugal.

Off the course, players will have plenty of opportunities to relax or prepare for what could be three life-changing rounds of golf. Whether it be the gym or sports club, or simply relaxing by the pool in one of Amendoeira’s luxury villas or apartments, which they’ll call home for the week, there will be an abundance of distractions for those seeking to switch off for a short time.

Upon player arrivals from a number of countries, including South Africa and the USA, the team at Amendoeira will showcase its renowned warm welcome and unparalleled hospitality, for which it was awarded ‘Algarve Golf Resort of the Year´ by the Travel & Hospitality Awards at the start of October.

Looking ahead to the championship, Chris Howell, Chairman of Oceanico Group, said: “It’s been a fantastic year for everyone at Amendoeira, being recognised with multiple awards and once again welcoming thousands of visiting golfers to experience both of our superb courses and accommodation."

EuroPro Tour Hawkstone Park Golf Club 31 August 2016

Looking forward to this event as I was also playing in the Pro-Am before the tournament with my sponsors

Finally, a beautiful sunny day awaited us and a shot gun start saw us starting off on the Par 3 second hole.

With the guys being very nervous we didn’t get off to the best off starts but once things had settled day the back nine proved to be the best golf as we were round in -8 as a team for -4 in total

Shaun from Kingsland Drinks saved the best till last as he sent in a iron to a couple of feet of the flag on hole 17 to take the nearest the pin prize, a dozen ProV1 golf balls which he very kindly donated to me to use (thanks again Shaun)

Really enjoyed playing the Pro-Am and we all made sure all had plenty of banter and laughs to keep each other going – thank you to Mark, John and Shaun for the day, great company

Playing the front nine first I didn’t get off to the best of starts when I made bogies from holes 2 to 5, after making pars on the rest of the front nine I was round in +3 38 for nine holes

Back nine and a pulled tee shot on the par 3 11th saw my ball head into the long rough – by the time I found my ball and got it out of the rough and onto the green a poor 3 putt and I had made a double bogey

I didn’t give up though and bounced straight back with birdies on holes on 12 and 14 so was back to level par back nine and 3 over from the front – in total day one 74 +3

Starting on the back nine – knew I needed a -3 and hope level par would be good enough for the cut

I birdied 14 to go one under par and +2 for the comp so was still in hope of the cut, no more birdies but 8 pars and I had finished the back nine (my front) 35 -1

Again for the third day running the par 3 second caught me out and I made a bogey followed by another on the 3rd

One shot back on the 8th with a birdie and I finished with a level par round of 71 – unfortunately my 3 over from day one left me at a tournament total of +3 just outside the cut line

Thank you to Mark (Divorce Online) and John and Shaun from (Kingsland Drinks) for all your support – I’m already looking forward to another golf day again sometime soon

Here’s my scorecard

The Barclays (from 2017 The Northern Trust) is a PGA Tour event that has been played in the New York area from 1967 through 2007 under a couple different names. Beginning in 2007, the tournament's name was changed to The Barclays, and the event would become the first of four "playoff" tournaments of the FedExCup series.

Northern Trust will replace Barclays Golf Tournament as sponsor through a five-year agreement that renames the tournament THE NORTHERN TRUST and maintains its position as the opening event of the FedExCup Playoffs.

The tournament was usually played during June of each year, either the week before (in even-numbered years) or the week after (in odd-numbered years) the U.S. Open. The Barclays had its greatest attendance in 2001 when Tiger Woods participated, although two days of heavy rains disrupted play quite a bit.

During the same 1967-2007 time span, The Barclays had always been played at the same course, the Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York. In 2008 the tournament switched to Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey, and in 2009 relocated again to Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. With a view of the New York City harbor and skyline, not to mention the Statue of Liberty, this was one breathtaking PGA Tour venue.

The Barclays will rotate its host golf course venues each year.

Barclays Host Venues Course Rotation:

2012 – Bethpage State Park's Black Course, Farmingdale, N.Y.

2013 – Liberty National, Jersey City, N.J.

2014 – Ridgewood Country Club, Paramus, N.J.

2015 – Plainfield Country Club, Edison, N.J.

2016 – Bethpage State Park's Black Course, Farmingdale, N.Y.

2017 – Glen Oaks Club, Old Westbury, N.Y.

2018 - The Ridgewood Country Club, Paramus, N.J.

2019 - Liberty National Golf Club, Jersey City, N.J.

2020 - Plainfield Country Club, Edison, N.J.

2021 - Black Course at Bethpage State Park, Farmingdale (Long Island), N.Y.

2022 - Liberty National Golf Club, Jersey City, N.J.

2017 Northern Trust Golf Tournament Winner: Dustin Johnson 2016 Barclays Golf Tournament Winner: Patrick Reed 2015 Barclays Golf Tournament Winner

Jason Day had a birdie on the closing hole gave him an 8-under 62 for a six-shot victory over Henrik Stenson.

2014 Barclays Golf Tournament Winner

Hunter Mahan made a clutch birdie putt on the 17th finished things off for the now six-time Tour winner.

2013 Barclays Golf Tournament Winner

Adam Scott wins 2013 Barclays Golf Tournament at Liberty National Golf Club. Scott shot a 5-under and 66 which gave him a one-shot win. He won for the second time this year, and at least put himself into the conversation for PGA Tour player of the year if he were to go on to win the FedEx Cup. He is No. 2 in the standings behind Woods.

The Barclays 2012 Winner

Nick Watney wins Barclays 2012 at Bethpage State Park Golf Course in New York. Watney turned a two-shot deficit against Sergio Garcia into a three-shot lead in a decisive four-hole stretch around the turn. The win means Watney goes to No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings and is assured a shot at the $10 million prize at the 2012 Tour Championship next month.

2011 Barclays Golf Tournament Winner

Dustin Johnson ended with a 19-under total of 194 at a rain-softened Plainfield Country Club. Johnson fired a six-under 65 on Saturday to launch the FedExCup playoffs with a two-shot win over U.S. Ryder Cup team mate Matt Kuchar at The Barclays. 2011 Golf victory is his fifth U.S. Tour win and first this season after four top-four results including runner-up finishes at the British Open and WGC-Cadillac Championship.

2010 Barclays Golf Tournament Winner

Martin Laird came in as second place at the Barclays Golf Tournament 2010 Leaderboard. Tied in third place were Steve Stricker and Kevin Streelman while tied on fifth place were Rory Sabbatini, Vaughn Taylor, Ryan Palmer, and Jason Day. Meanwhile, the world’s number one golfer Tiger Woods which led the leaderboard of the Barclays Golf Tournament 2010 during the first round tied for 12th place at 7-under. But Matt Kuchar was undoubtedly the winner of the title in course hole number 18 just 3 strokes away from Martin Laird’s 4.

2009 Barclays Golf Tournament Winner

Heath Slocum might have been the one player no one expected to win The Barclays. He was locked in a tense battle over the final hour Sunday, August 30th at Liberty National with some of the biggest names in golf such as Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker, Padraig Harrington and Ernie Els.
