Caroline Wozniacki reveals her sadness over Steven Gerrard's Liverpool departure - but will watch him in LA

The tennis star says she will go along to Galaxy games to support Stevie G when he makes the stateside switch, but admits she is 'sad' he is leaving Anfield

  • 09:31, 20 JAN 2015

Caroline Wozniacki said she will go to LA Galaxy to watch Stevie Gerrard when the Liverpool legend leaves Anfield.

The Reds skipper will move across the Atlantic to the MLS next season.

And Wozniacki, a big Reds fan, has promised to follow him.

"I'm obviously sad - I think Stevie has done so much for the team over the years," said the Dane. "He's a legend. I think if that's what he thinks is the right time, I have to support that.

"He had a talk with the manager and he said that maybe he wasn't going to be playing as much. Yeah, I'm a little sad. I don't know.

"I'm going to have my Stevie G jerseys hanging somewhere. Unfortunately he won't be playing there anymore. I'll have to make a trip probably to L.A. to have a look again. But, yeah, 17 seasons, 17 years, it's a long time."

The former world No 1 started her Australian Open campaign with a 7-6 6-2 win over American Taylor Townsend.

Wozniacki will face double Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in the second round.

The Weed EXT 135 Blue offers one of the largest sweetspots available on the market today. The 28mm widebody cross-section creates a very solid feel at ball impact, almost anywhere on the racquet face. The super-oversized head, combined with the quickness of the ultra-light weight and the 28.25 inch length, make volleying a snap (and groundstrokes, and serves, and overheads, and half volleys. ).

NOTE: Due to the headsize of this racquet (and length of string required), any string upgrades will incur a charge for an additional set of string.

5 Stars weed racquet

Bill from FL wrote (February 21, 2015):

I was looking for more ball speed while keeping smooth strokes. Very stable on off center hits and I got the extra speed.

4 Stars Weed 135 - demo'd

Bob from SC wrote (November 18, 2014):

WEED EXT 135 BLUE Demo'd - Good control, power and spin-ability playing competitive tennis. Expect a few of your purist friends to mock you for using a 135 square inch face, but once your topspin shots jump over their shoulders, you'll be the one smiling. The WEED 135 is very light and easy to negotiate. I have a fast swing and the 135 holds the ball well for control and pace and extreme topspin.

5 Stars I love weed

Stevie Daquan from IA wrote (September 29, 2014):

I love weed, it's great. I'm addicted to this super duper racquet. It gives so much power, that I get fazed after a couple of shots. It really helps my tweener lob underspin winners too! I recommend this!

4 Stars demo review

Terry from VA wrote (February 21, 2014):

I loved this oversized racquet! Great power & control.

5 Stars Amazing.

D.H. from PA wrote (August 26, 2013):

I'm a 4.0 singles player who got this demo for an older friend to try. I took it out first and played a match with my normal partner. At first I hated it. Then I realized it had no dampener. After hitting for about 10 minutes, I gradually got used to it and every shot I hit was magnified, but not really altered. I killed my topspin serve, slices were killers, and volleys were amazing. My buddy said my level of play across the board, in every area, was amazing. By the time the match was over, we were both laughing about how much the racquet had improved my game and how much he had to raise his level to compete. This racquet will allow anyone to play better. Forget the kidding about it being large. Nobody will even notice the difference until you're beating them like a drum with it.

5 Stars The Weed

Geoff New Zealand from wrote (July 25, 2013):

I have used Weeds for several years and they would have to be the most underrated Racket on the market. It's common sense, you have power, a massive head, and they are nice and light.

Patrick 4.5 senior from MI wrote (June 24, 2013):

Wow my serve just picked up 20% in speed and accuacy volleys you feel invincible ground strokes have much more control then I would have thought. I used to tease my friends about the snowshoe headsize but I am now clearly winning more matches. great racquet

4 Stars It really is big

Bobby Lee from NY wrote (May 02, 2013):

I like the racket because of its size. I can now reach balls further away from me. It is a little springy but if you don't squeeze the grip so tight it's OK

4 Stars power baby

Jay W from N.Y. wrote (January 10, 2013):

I thought I would never find a replacement for my Wilson hammer 2.7. What a power rauquet. Well the Weed has the power plus control. I find it amazing.

Stevie G, Ian Rush, Peter Beardsley and more derby hat-trick heroes

As if Gerrard needed to make himself any more of a Kop legend

    Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Scoring in a derby will always ingratiate a player with the fans, but smashing in a hat-trick takes you to a whole new level. After Liverpool's Steven Gerrard demolished Merseyside neighbours Everton with a timely treble, talkSPORT takes a look back at six derby hat-trick heroes…

Before Stevie G's heroics, Rush was the last player to score a hat-trick in a Merseyside derby. The Welsh wizard actually went one better, knocking in four as Liverpool trounced Everton 5-0 on their own turf.

This was when the world's greatest player truly announced his arrival. In just his second full season for Barca, the 19-year-old brought La Blaugrana level three times against Fabio Capello's Madrid. The Argentine reserved his best strike for last, netting a dramatic late equaliser and becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in this fixture since Ivan Zamorano for Real in 1995.

Played out on New Year's Day at St James' Park, this derby was a real firecracker. Featuring two red cards, a missed penalty and a quality hat-trick from Magpies legend 'Pedro', this one lives long in the memory of all Geordies present. This was the last Tyne-Wear hat-trick until Kevin Nolan led the Toon Army in destroying Sunderland 5-1 in 2010.

Six years before Beardsley broke Mackem hearts, it was Sunderland legend Gary Rowell's turn to make Geordies weep. A stunning hat-trick and a 4-1 win on the enemy's territory in a Division Two match meant Rowell would never be forgotten on Wearside.

Is there any better way to ensure you become a club legend than scoring a hat-trick in a cup final against your most bitter rivals? Current Gers boss Ally McCoist was the last man to grab such a treble and he did it in some style.

One of the fierecest rivalries in Europe was settled by an inspired Vincenzo Montella grabbing four goals in 2002. The former Italy striker ripped Lazio's defence to shreds as Roma ran out 5-1 winners.
