Daily breeze football forecast

D.C. area forecast: Breezy and cool, but at least rain chances are slim

The inside track on Washington politics.

*Invalid email address

* Frost advisory 12 a.m to 10 a.m. for Fauquier and western Loudoun counties *

8:55 p.m. update: The National Weather Service earlier this afternoon issued a frost advisory for Fauquier and western Loudoun counties from midnight to 10 a.m. due to temperatures expected to dip into the low-mid 30s. Here’s a look at forecast lows Monday morning.

Forecast lows Monday morning. (WeatherBell.com)

May I remind everyone, it’s mid-May! Jason, CWG

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

8/10: A sunny start and slim chance of rain gets high marks, despite the cool air, gusty breeze and potential for increasing afternoon clouds.

Today: Partly sunny, breezy, stray shower north? Highs: Upper 50s to low 60s.

Tonight: Quite cool. Lows: Upper 30s to mid-40s.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, less windy. Highs: Mid-60s to near 70.

Yesterday was warm and sunny for a time, but we had to deal with the afternoon rain. Today we get some sun and get rid of the rain (mostly), but we have to deal with cooler temperatures and a gusty breeze. But hey, beggars right? If you’re desperate to get back into the “nice day” realm, tomorrow’s our best bet as we head back toward 70 with a good deal of sun. It’s only fleeting though, as our gray-scape and shower chances return as we head into midweek.

Today (Sunday): Two things of note about today: 1) it’s dry for the vast majority of us, and 2) it’s windy. Also we should see plenty of sun through the morning hours, although cold air at the mid-to-upper levels could increase clouds during the afternoon. Highs only reach the upper 50s to low 60s and a brief afternoon shower can’t be ruled out, mainly north of the metro area. A steady wind from the west-northwest blows at 15-20 mph, gusting near 30 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Still that chance of a stray early-evening shower mainly north of the metro area. Otherwise we have a chilly overnight in store, by mid-May standards at least. With diminishing winds and skies turning mostly clear, the suburbs drop into the upper 30s to low 40s, with low-to-mid 40s likely inside the Beltway. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Monday): Just in time to head back to work, we get our nicest day in some time. Skies are mostly sunny as high pressure briefly takes hold. Temperatures respond well, reaching highs in the mid-60s to near 70. Westerly winds continue at 10-15 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Skies trend cloudier again as a warm front starts to close in. In fact, a few sprinkles may start to fall toward morning, especially in the western suburbs. Temperatures are noticeably milder than tonight, with lows ranging from the upper 40s to mid-50s. Confidence: Medium

Forgive me, but gray and potentially damp weather is set to return midweek. A warm front followed by an area low pressure means the likelihood of occasional showers during the Tuesday through Wednesday period, with highs both days in the 60s, and Tuesday night lows in the low-to-mid 50s. Confidence: Low

There’s hope to be had later in the week, as we may see a multi-day stretch of nicer weather heading toward next weekend.
